Cellulite vs. Loose Skin

Last Updated on December 13, 2021 by

Cellulite and loose skin are nothing to be ashamed of. There’s nothing abnormal about these skin concerns. Most healthy adults have them to some degree. But while there are no health ramifications to cellulite and loose skin, it can be aesthetically displeasing. From the latest new creams to exercises, most of us will go to any lengths to get rid of it.

Cellulite and loose skin are made up of normal fat cells. They can happen to those of any size and sex and aren’t signs of obesity or health problems. While men can have cellulite and loose skin, it’s more common among women.  Biologically, women have more subcutaneous fat (or fat underneath the skin’s surface) than men. Therefore, women are more prone to cellulite and saggy, loose skin.

Cellulite

Cellulite refers to the dimpled skin on the stomach area, buttocks, and thighs, most notably on women. Also known as “cottage cheese” and “orange peel” skin, cellulite shows up as flesh-colored dimples.

What exactly causes cellulite is unclear. However, we know that it’s caused by the onset of fat deposits that happen between the skin’s collagen fibers, which visibly show on the skin’s outer surface. The skin in areas where cellulite occurs seems to package fat lobules differently and more superficially than skin that’s smooth and firm.

Loose Skin

Loose skin and stretch marks show up on areas of the body that have lost their elasticity for one reason or another. Loose skin is prone to develop on the stomach, face, buttocks, arms, and thighs.

Loose skin is the breakdown of the skin’s natural elastin and collagen fibers due to things such as weight loss, pregnancy, aging, and genetics. This breakdown happens deep within the skin tissue, making it notorious for being difficult to get rid of– even with exercise.

To tell the difference, put your hand flush on your skin with pressure and move your hand in an upward movement. If the skin is smooth, that would indicate that it is loose skin. If the skin still has dimpling, it is cellulite.

Get Rid of It for Good

Unfortunately, most of us are subject to cellulite and loose skin due to our genetics, inevitable aging, and childbirth– all things that are next to impossible to avoid. While some things can help treat them, there’s not much we can do to get rid of them without going to a professional.

Luckily, revolutionary new aesthetic treatments are available that can treat cellulite and loose skin for good. At Embry Aesthetics, we offer several treatments for both cellulite and loose skin that are effective and permanent.

Treatments for Cellulite and Loose Skin

  • Mesotherapy: a treatment in which Lipodissolve is injected into fat cells to permanently flush them from the body. Mesotherapy uses a mixture of vitamins, enzymes, and hormones to fill in and tighten the skin.
  • Emsculpt: Emsculpt Neo® is a semi-permanent way to stimulate the muscles to become firmer and more toned. You can get the same effects as working out while dissolving fat cells at the same time to tighten and smooth out loose skin.
  • Vanquish ME™: using controlled RF (radio frequency) energy, fat cells and adipose tissue from the skin’s deeper layers can be targeted.
  • Emtone®: Cellulite is dissolved, and loose skin is tightened at the same time to give permanent results.

If you’re unsure which treatment is right for you, one of our professionals at our Tempe medical spa can give you a consultation and come up with a treatment plan.
